Lise Kingo to lead the UN Global Compact

The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has appointed Lise Kingo as new head of the United Nation Global Compact.

As former Executive Vice President and Chief of Staffs at Novo Nordisk Lise Kingo has been in charge of Novo Nordisk’s work with Corporate Social Responsibility for several years. Lise Kingo is chairman of the Danish Council for Corporate Responsibility. She is also Adjunct Professor in Sustainability and Innovation at Vrije University in the Netherlands.

The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. It is based on ten core principles of promoting human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. By complying with the ten principles, companies can contribute to the solution of economic, social and environmental challenges as well as the implementation of UN development goals.

The UN Global Compact covers more than 8000 companies and 4000 other signatories in 170 countries. In Denmark 270 companies have joined the initiative.

An important task for Lise Kingo and the UN Global Compact will be to engage businesses worldwide in the implementation of the forthcoming UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are to be adopted by the UN General Assembly later this year under Danish presidency.
