New publication by two of the Associate Professors at CAS, Karen Lauterbach and Niels Kastfelt

Niels Kastfelt has a chapter on ‘Religion, mission og udvikling – en historisk introduktion’ and Karen Lauterbach has a chapter on ’Religions og udvikling i forskning og praksis’ - both in the recently published book ‘Kristendom og udvikling – kan tro flytte bjerge?’ (Dansk Missionsråd, 2015) edited by Uffe Torm.

The book contains both historical and theoretical perspectives on the Danish contribution to the area of Christianity and development, as well as more grounded examples of the role of religion in daily development work.

In his chapter Niels Kastfelt looks into the link between religion and development from a historical perspective and argues that it is only in the Western part of the world, and since the 1940ies, that these two phenomena have been separated in thought.

In her chapter Karen Lauterbach emphasizes the importance of understanding how governments and local societies, in which development work takes place, perceive the connection between religion and development. She argues religion in parts of the world is a big part of people’s ontology and that recognition of this is beneficial in the context of development work.

The book is highly relevant for everyone who is interested in understanding the relationship between religiosity and engagement in development. Please note that the book is published in Danish.
