UCPH ranked #13 in the world for development studies
University of Copenhagen is the best in Scandinavia and number eight in Europe at development studies according to the new QS World University Ranking
University of Copenhagen is the 13th best university in the world for development studies according to the latest QS World University Ranking. In Scandinavia UCPH is number one and in Europe QS ranks Copenhagen the eight best university for development studies only surpassed by seven British universities.
2015 is the first year that QS World University Ranking includes development studies as a discipline. With its 13th place development studies is the second-highest rated discipline at UCPH only surpassed by dentistry which is at 11th place.

Professor of development economics and Head of Studies at the MSc in Global Development Henrik Hansen is excited about the result.
- Development research at University of Copenhagen has long had a great international reputation. I am glad that this is acknowledged in the QS ranking. We have some of the best development researchers in the world and I am very happy that so many of them are part of our master´s programme in Global Development which is mainly taught by the very researchers who have been subject to this ranking, says Henrik Hansen. He notes that UCPH´s reputation in the field of development is already “out there”.
- It seems like prospective students are well aware of the strength of development studies at UCPH. This year we received more than 500 applications for our 60 positions at the MSc in Global Development, he says.
QS University Ranking has reached its conclusions by looking at research published in important international journals as well as by talking to leading researchers in various disciplines to get their opinion on who is strongest in their particular field of research.
University of Copenhagen is overall ranked as the 45th best university in the world. At the top of the list is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) followed by Cambridge University and Imperial College London.
