UTokyo-PKU Joint Online Course “East Asia and the World under the Pandemic”

Course Objectives/Overview

As the worldwide spread of the pandemic of COVID-19 has been changing people's ways of life, we, standing on respective positions while sharing the same situation, through this course aim to proceed on inter-disciplinary explorations into various effects in terms of human civilization, society, history, and natural environment resulted from the pandemic event. This online course is part of the joint program of East Asian Studies coordinated by the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) and Peking University (PKU) as well as a program co-hosted by the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU). The lectures will be taught by professors from UTokyo and PKU. The students are expected to actively participate in in-class discussion moderated by the instructors and teaching assistants.

In addition to lectures, students are supposed to participate in a wrap-up symposium held in the
end of the semester.

Teaching Methods

Online course AND on-demand lectures. English will be the working language. The students are required to watch beforehand course videos provided by East Asian Academy for New Liberal Arts (EAA) on Panopto (see below) and share their thoughts with others during the regular online session on Friday (which lasts from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, JST).
